‘What We Do in the Shadows’ or four vampires in NY

Based on Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s feature film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows is a “documentary” view of four vampires’ daily life (or rather nightlife) that have been living together in Staten Island (New York) for a hundred years.

The self-proclaimed leader of the group is Nandor The Relentless (Kayvan Novak), a great Ottoman Empire warrior and conqueror that has taken charge of the leadership of the gang even though the Old World methods turn out to be obsolete.

Therefore, there is the British vampire Laszlo (Matt Berry), a little bit swindler and a dandy. He is a prank and great night out lover, but what he enjoys the most is watching how Nandor badly fails on each attempt. And then there is Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), the seductress, Laszlo’s vampire in the style of “Bonnie and Clyde”.

Their backgrounds make us understand the many twists and turns that involve living an immortal life. Living together in this house there’s also Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), Nandor’s relative (a.k.a butler or “protector during daylight”), that only wants to turn into a real vampire like his master.

An unexpected visit of their dark lord and leader, Baron Afanas, reminds to our vampires the mission he commanded them when they arrived at New York a hundred years ago: the absolute and total control of the New World. But how is exactly the best way to achieve this domination?

Jemaine Clement is the creator of this 10 episode show. And he’s also the producer together with Taika Waititi and Paul Simms. What We Do in the Shadows is a FX Productions production and has been distributed in our country by HBO España.
