Inauguration: ‘El Milagro’

They say horror and fantasy create their myths and monsters as an answer to their generation’s uncertainties. Two of the Italian films that thiumphed in the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Troppa Grazia and Lazzaro Felice, base their respective plots in apparitions of the Virgin and the coming of a not-really-messianic sort of saint. In Il Miracolo, the series that will inaugurate the fifth Serielizados Fest, a Madonna figure cries liters and liters of blood. Is there a crisis of faith near the Holy See?

Il Miracolo, an original Sky series penned by writer Niccolò Ammaniti, uses this PVC stigma and a variety of multi-sided characters (the prime minister and his not-as-happy-as-the-media-shows family; the scientist with a personal agenda –played by Alba Rohrwacher in one of the brightest periods of her career-; the priest with an evil twist) to elaborate a story about the beliefs and stereotypes in decadence that build Italy nowadays. Mafia, politics and holy manifestations in equal measures. Winking at our previous guest country, we’ll get this Serielizados Fest started by screening the first episode of Il Miracolo.

#2por31992 and The Young Pope.

Screening in Italian with Spanish subtitles.
